Karen visits schools and other educational settings to share her book Scruffy and Silk with the children. She then discusses individual differences and uses music and actions to enhance the message.

Karen answers students’ questions about being an author, encouraging them in their writing journey.

She also provides worksheets for children to explore the text in Scruffy and Silk and do some of their own writing.

Karen held a great book reading for our school. She was a fantastic presenter and role model for our young writers. I would definitely recommend her for engaging young readers and writers to further develop their own sense of being an author.

Scruffy and Silk is about a cat and a dog and their different personalities. It helps explore individual differences.

The simple text uses alliteration, repetition, and descriptive action words aimed at early primary school readers. Scruffy is an appealing hairy little terrier and quite a contrast to the elegant and decorous Silk. The hand-drawn pencil illustrations by Kaz Clarke bring the story to life, with Scruffy’s expressive eyes and Silk’s monobrow and bow tied around the top knot on her head.
